On May 3, 2013, The Environmental Council of Rhode Island (ECRI) presented Pascoag Utility District with the Senator John H. Chafee Outstanding Conservation Project Award. The ECRI honors four organizations each year for their work in improving the health of the Rhode Island environment. Pascoag Utility received the award for the ongoing success of the annual Green Festival and Sustainability workshops.
Pascoag Utility District’s Sustainable Workshop Series and Green Festival are in their 7th year of operation. The workshops being each May and are held in partnership with the Burrillville Farmers Market Association. Past workshop topics have included rain water barrel use and water conservation, solar energy use for homes and businesses; geothermal heating and energy conservation tips. The series culminates in September at the Green Festival. The Festival showcases Green services and products from RI, with a focus on accutane energy conservation.
In 2013, the Pascoag Utility District will be partnering with the Town of Burrillville’s Parks and Recreation/Public Works Departments to expand the Festival further. The Festival will be moved to the Stillwater Mill Center, near the Burrillville Farmers Market pavilion and river walk.
